FESTIVAL AWARDS

The Silver Mirror Award for Best Film in Competition
The Silver Mirror is Film from the South's award. A jury consisting of three persons select a winner among the films in the festival's main Competition. The prize money, 100,000 NOK, goes to Norwegian import of the film, and is granted by Film & Kino.

FIPRESCI Award for best film in New Directions
The FIPRESCI Award is an international critics award selected by a jury consisting of three people. The jury is appointed by the Norwegian Film Critics Association. The winning film is guaranteed support for DVD import and launch. The Norwgian company Platekompaniet will account for the distribution of the winning film.

Doc:Sør for best film in the Documentary Competition

The award goes to the best film in the Documentary Competition. Dok:Sør is Films from the South's documentary award. A jury of three persons select the winning film, which receives Norwegian DVD distribution through Sherpa Distribution.

Oslo Municipal Cinema's Marketing Award

The Oslo Muncipal Cinema's Marketing Award is given to one of the films that have already been imported by a Norwegian distributor. The winner will receive marketing support in Oslo at the value of NOK 50,000.

The Audience Award
All films screened during the Film Festival from the South festival compete for the Audience Award. The voting takes place at Film from South web site. The winning film will be aquired for programming at the TV channel NRK, and will be shown on television during the following year. The prize is valued at NOK 75,000.

 

PROGRAMME SECTIONS

Competition: 14 features in competition for The Silver Mirror Award.

New Directions: 13 features or documentaries by first or second-time directors. The films compete for the FIPRESCI prize.

Doc:Sør: ca. 12 documentaries competing for the Doc:Sør award.

The Critical Room: Documentaries and seminars that present current international challenges.

Retrospectives: Highlights great artists of world cinema. In 2009 Films from the South present retrospectives on Hiokazu Kore-eda, Carlos Reygadas and Cuban cinema. In 2006 the festival screened the complete work of Abbas Kiarostami, in 2007 a selection of works by Filmphotographer Mark lee ping Bing.
