30 min om ...

Before the screening of ERNEST COLE, LOST AND FOUND, we invite you to a conversation about the photographer who let the world see apartheid in all its brutality before he was forced into exile.

  • Date: 15.11.24
  • Time: 17:00
  • Venue: Nedre Foajé, Vega Scene
  • Language: Norwegian

Ernest Cole is the photographer who truly allowed the world to see what apartheid really was before he was forgotten and died in exile. Thirty years after the fall of apartheid, the youth in South Africa debate whether apartheid ever really ended and if Mandela was a sellout. What do Cole's photos tell us about today's situation?

Panel participants:

  • Hans Beukes, Namibian activist in Norwegian exile since 1959 and friend of Ernest Cole
  • Nosizwe Baqwa, stage artist and performer who won the Hedda Award in 2022 for the personal and political generational story "Mother of a Nation".
  • The conversation is led by author Andreas Liebe Delsett, who is currently working on a book about South Africa after the fall of apartheid.

Catch the entire program marking the thirty-year anniversary of apartheid's fall and South Africa's first democratic election. ERNEST COLE, LOST AND FOUND will be screened at 17:45 in Vega 1, and MAPANTSULA will be screened at 20:45 in Vega 3, with director Oliver Schmitz participating in a video conversation before the screening. Between the screenings, there will be an opportunity to enjoy some South African wine and music in the foyer.
