The Critical Room: Woman, minority and activist
In the powerful documentary Igualada, we meet Colombia's Vice President Francia Elena Márquez. As a woman and an Afro-Colombian, she is a rare bird at the top of Latin American politics.
From humble beginnings in the countryside and as a young single mum, Márquez has fought her way up the political ladder. We get an insight into the fierce and sometimes violent opposition she has faced, but also how she is an inspiration to a new generation of Colombian women. In collaboration with the Latin American Groups in Norway (LAG), we invite you to a conversation with director Juan Mejia Botero about activism, gender equality and the role of minorities in Colombia.
Panelists:
- Juan Mejia Botero is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who focuses on human rights and social inequalities in South America, the US and the Caribbean.
- Angélica Balanta is a modern Afro-Colombian activist who uses fashion to spark debates and change attitudes.
- Moderator: Jessica Buendia, head of LAG.
The event is done in collaboration with the Latin American Groups in Norway (LAG).
