Fallen Angel extends on the themes of Chunking Express with its love-starved characters wandering lonesome through Hong Kong's neon- night and with a similar frenetic and exquisite aesthetic. This is a darker film, but the same melancholy, nostalgia and cunning humour are still present. In Fallen Angels we meet Wong, the Hit-man, and his young female assistant, whom is wildly and hopelessly in love with him. They hardly ever meet, but she has a desperate one-way relationship with him through his physical environment, the objects he touches or a bed he has sleep in.
