Amores Perros, that loosely translates to Beloved Mongrels, is a precise summation of this exceptional film’s exploration of passion, loss and the complexity of our lives. In part one of Innaritu’s directorial debut we meet Octavio, a young man in love with his brother’s wife. Part two is about a perfumed editor who leaves his wife and three children to move in with a young and beautiful model. Part three is a powerful portrait of a homeless person with a chequered past. A fatal car accident weaves these three stories together, and the director thus shows that we all are defined also by what we have lost.
