A dear and beloved friend of the Films from the South Festival is the Cuban director Fernando Peréz. His latest work is Madrigal, a mysterious metafilm dedicated to none other than the film maker René Clair – and especially his Summer Manouvres. Actually Peréz wrote Madrigal after La Vida Es Silbar but before Suite Habana. According to the director himself he had to make something completely different after Suite.. The realism and simplicity in Suite.. is indeed gone and instead we have two parallell, complex stories that intervene into a mysterious universe. Photography, acting and the beautiful moods in the film is like a rich and vivid carpet. ls
