The Executioner
Jip-hang-ja is the feature debut of South Korean director Jin-ho Choi. The story takes place inside a prison where a serial killer has been sentenced to capital punishment. After 12 years of absence, the death penalty is once again part of the everyday prison life as the guards are put to the task of restauring the necessary equipment for the execution.
But the work raises ethical dilemmas and discussions, while a rumour that the prisoner is innocent emerges. As the day of the execution approaches, the guards are left with the choice between following their own convinction of the man’s innocence, or putting him to death as their orders say.
