We finish off this year’s Films from the South with a dive into the Japanese auteur Takeshi Kitano’s (also called Beat Takeshi) dark Yakuza world (Yakuza: organized crime). When the body of a high-profile anti-mafia detective is found in Tokyo Bay, the police gather their forces in a large operation against Tokyo’s criminal underworld. When a raid against the Sanno boss goes wrong, the corrupt police detective Kataoka hires ex-con Ohtomo (Beat Kitano) to settle matters.

Suitable for persons 15 years and older.

Beat Takeshi remains one of the top celebrities in the Japanese entertainment industry – as a director, actor and comedian. He first became famous through his depiction of the Yakuzas, but before that he made appearances in bizarre TV-shows such as Takeshis`, Glory to the Filmmaker! and Achilles and the Tortoise.
