Cricket, friendship and politics are central themes in the cheerful, but dramatic Brothers for Life (2013), based on Chetan Bhagat's novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life. This Indian buddy film takes place in Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The three very different friends, Ishaan, Omi and Govind, share a dream of starting a business together. They want to start a cricket school and sports shop, only they don't have enough money. So they have to find a way to finance their big project. Meanwhile, a political and religious conflict is starting to escalate, events based on an actual Hindi-Muslim conflict that caused riots in Gujarat in 2002. This conflict will deeply affect their relationship. Although the film starts out as three friends' cheerful hunt for success, the realistic and historical backdrop brings the story to another level. ibh
