A dark, sultry, intense drama unfolds as an extraordinary discovery is made at a construction site outside of Tangiers. Dounia and her Serbo-Croatian lover, Dimitri, see an opportunity to make fast money. Desperate to gain custody of her son, which by Islamic law is given to the father when marriage dissolves, Dounia turns to drastic measures. Director Nadir Moknèche comments on religion in theory and in practice, and portrays the construction site as a multicultural microcosm reflecting a wider, globalised world. A broad range of languages are spoken, and the racial hierarchy displays prejudice old as colonialism itself. Goodbye Morocco will take your breath away! Impossible and forbidden love, intense intrigues, and unexpected turns makes it a must see. mcv
