Jodorowsky's Dune
Jodorowsky’s Dune has already become a cult film. Considering the topic at hand, this comes as no surprise: This is the story of the legendary director and his failed attempt at adapting Frank Herbert’s epic sci-fi-adventure and cult classic Dune to the big screen. “I wanted to make something holy...”, Jodorowsky explains in the film, “an artistic, cinematic god.” An all-star crew and cast of H. R. Giger, Pink Floyd, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, and Salvador Dalí were to work together on this failed fantasy project, which is the most fascinating story of what could have been in cinema history. hs
Frank Pavich made his first documentary N.Y.H.C. (1999) about the 1980s hardcore and punk scene in New York, when he was 22 years old. The award-winning Jodorowsky’s Dune, however, is perhaps his greatest accomplishment so far. The film received strong reviews at the Cannes film festival in 2013, and has been a part of the official selection of several film festivals internationally.
