Jodorowsky wanted to make the ultimate cinematic tour de force. Many thought El Topo was far out, but this man wanted to take it even further. The result was The Holy Mountain, a visual landslide of symbolism, alchemy, splatter, and psychedelia. Jodorowsky said, "I ask of cinema what most North Americans ask of psychedelic drugs" of which The Holy Mountain perhaps is the best example. This is a collection of the most bizarre and absurd scenes caught on film. At the same time, Jodorowsky is a skilled storyteller, when one accepts that this is the movie where anything can happen. The film is really entertaining and, at times, hilarious. Despite lofty metaphors and rabid symbolism, Jodorowsky binds it all together into one of the best plot twists in film history. The Holy Mountain is like no other film and must be experienced. lm
