The Wind Journeys

A magical journey with the wind and the music through Caribbean Colombia! Throughout his life, Ignacio Carillo has toured as a musician with his accordion. He has traveled tirelessly from village to village, and has achieved a mysterious and legendary status as a musician. Rumor has it that the instrument belonged to the devil and is enchanted. A plausible claim, for the notes Ignacio coaxes out of the accordion literally captivates his audience.

Ignacio's wife dies and the hardworking musician leaves for his final journey to return the accordion to his old mentor. On the way, he meets the teenager Fermín who dreams of becoming a juglar – a street musician – like Ignacio. They join forces on the journey, although Ignacio does not wish the youngster a lonely fate similar to his own.

Director Ciro Guerra leads us through the journey’s many exciting and surprising encounters. With exquisite photography and beautiful music The Wind Journeys combines the magical with the realistic. The result is a deeply fascinating meeting with Colombia's cultural and geographical diversity.

The Colombian director Ciro Guerra (b. 1981) is one of the most talented directors from South America. We screen all his films at this years festival. The Wandering Shadows (2004), The Wind Journeys (2009) and Embrace of the Serpent, which won an award during this years Cannes Film Festival.
