Pierre is seventeen years old, and lives with his mother and younger sister. He lives a rambunctious life, filled with parties, women, drugs and music. He’s in search of himself and explores his identity by dressing up as women. Life doesn’t get easier for Pierre when the police knocks on his door and it turns out he was stolen not long after his birth. Suddenly, life is turned upside down. The woman he has always believed to be his mother is arrested, and Pierre is forced into a new life with his biological family. Their desires and expectations to the long-awaited son, doesn’t match up with what he wants for himself.

Don't Call Me Son is a touching and energetic story. It takes a look at the concept of what you can call a home. Questions about one's own identity and belonging is strong in this film, who explores family issues through the eyes of a rebellious teenager.

Anna Muylaert (1964) was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She has directed several award winning short films before she debuted with her feature Durval Discos in 2002. Her fourth feature film The Second Motherland (2015) was shown at the Sundance Film Festival and the Panorama at the Berlinale film festival, where it received the Audience Award. Don't Call Me Son premiered this year at the Berlin International Film Festival.
