Japan's enfant terrible, mad Miike, is out with no. 1 of the two films he annually serves his global audience of blood fans. What he serves up is never easy to tell from year to year, but regardless of quality, no one can accuse him of being politically correct. This time it's sci-fi on the menu, based on the mega popular manga series of the same name, with mutant cockroaches on Mars in leading roles. We are in the 21st century and the Earth is in trouble. To prepare the colonization of Mars, humans send an algae mixture to the red planet to create atmosphere - plus cockroaches to see how organic life would be able to multiply and evolve there. Of course things go terribly wrong and a team of losers are sent up to find out what has happened. Be prepared for a Miike in playful mood, and with one of the strangest films he’s ever done.
