The superstar Danny Glover, known from Lethal Weapon, is the international draw in 93 Days, a thriller that uses the Ebola outbreak in 2014 as a dramatic backdrop.

Based on true events, the film focuses on a group of dedicated physicians who did a tremendous job protecting Nigeria’s population from a potential epidemic. It begins with American diplomat Patrick Sawyer arriving in the capital Lagos with clear symptoms of Ebola. He is taken to a hospital against his will, but denies having had any contact with Ebola victims on his travels. With support from Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri (Glover), Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh refuses to release Sawyer, despite growing resistance from colleagues, politicians, and Saywer himself. As Adadevoh’s worst suspicions are confirmed, the film sets out to tell the tale of the heroic doctors and their attempt to stop the deadly disease from spreading to the capital’s 20 million inhabitants.

Using the thriller genre to depict the grave realities of a potential catastrophe works well in 93 Days. It focuses first and foremost on individuals who put their own life and health at risk to protect others, and is dedicated to Ameyo Adadevoh and her colleagues, who all played a crucial role during the outbreak of Ebola in Nigeria.
