One of Nollywoods biggest box office hits in recent years, this action comedy follows young Adigun as he moves to Lagos to take up his late father's business as a cab driver. Soon Adigun is confronted with the rules of the capital's criminal underworld, and must reorient himself in order to work – and survive. He reluctantly becomes the private chaffeur of a young call girl, and finds himself subject to great danger. In this cinematic universe, only the law of the jungle applies, and ordinary citizens are easy prey for the city's villains.

Focusing on a rather naive character's journey from the country to the big city is a well-known Nollywood trope, and gives Taxi Driver: Oko Ashewo a specifically Nigerian flavour. The film shows the down-sides of the informal economy in one of the world's fastest-growing cities, but it is also a heart-warming story of how people from very different walks of life stand up for each other against all odds.
