Ash Is Purest White is an epic gangster/love story from Jia Zhangke, Chinas foremost cinematix poet of this century. Jia Zhangke (f. 1970) is regarding as the leading director of China's "sixth generation" of filmmakers. He is born in a village in Shanxi, a northern Chinese province that he has depicted in several of his films. Zhangke is known for films such as Still Life (2006), which won the Golden Lion in Venice, A Touch of Sin (2013) and Mountains May Depart (2015).
