The Truth is Hirokazu Kore-eda’s first film made outside of his native Japan, with dialogue in French and English. French cinema legends Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche star as a mother and daughter with a rather complicated relationship. Their reunion is nearly bursting with tension, especially considering the mother’s newly released autobiographical book. While remarkably French in style, the film still has Kore-eda’s signature all over it, most notable in the interesting family dynamics and realistic human relations. MKH
