The Shameless
The forbidden romance between two women is a catalyst for chaos in Konstantin Bojanov’s crime drama, set within a sex worker community in India.
Following her killing of a cop at a Delhi brothel, the restless Renuka goes north, settling in a community of other sex workers. Across the street is Devika, a younger woman awaiting the sale of her first night – a transaction she herself has no say in.
Despite their clashing personalities, a romance blooms between the two women. Together, they set their sights on freedom, well aware that its price may be too steep.
The Shameless premiered as part of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, where Anasuya Sengupta, who plays Renuka, recieved the shared award for Best Performance.
«The Shameless is a compelling exploration of two women’s struggle for freedom, love, and identity as they defy societal norms and confront the oppressive forces of patriarchy and male dominance. […]. [It] deserves your outmost attention.»
